I will be leaving for a vacation to California in t minus two days and I am getting excited. We have a lot of things planned and we will be celebrating Bella's (early) birthday with her dad's family. Although there will be little time to pull out a book and read for a huge amount of time, there will still be time to read on the plane and any leisure time we have. In that case, I would like to present you with seven books to read on your summer vacation.
#1 The Rumor by Elin Hilderbrand
I've talked about this title in a previous What's New Wednesday and I feel as if it would be a perfect book to read on the beach or just relaxing while on vacation. This book deals with two friends who are in the middle of fixing each other's problems when the solution sets a rumor on fire.
#2 The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin
Rubin speaks of how she was not living life to the fullest and even though "the days were long," the years were actually short. She dedicates a year to her Happiness Project and this book shows all the results.
#3 A Hundred Summers by Beatriz Williams
When Lily moves back home to Seaview, Rhode Island, she is reacquainted with her former best friend and her former fiance, Nick and Budgie, who are newly married. Budgie slowly re-enters Lily's life and Lily and Nick realize that they have a bond that's too strong to ignore. When the 1938 hurricane hits, all three are forced to spill secrets they have all been hiding.
#4 The Vacationers by Emma Straub
When a family takes a two week vacation to Mallorca, they find that they have been hiding their true selves from each other and once the vacation is over, they are altered yet a stronger family.
#5 The Beach House by Mary Alice Monroe
Cara is forced to move back to her small hometown after losing her job in Chicago. She quickly finds that her mother is ill and she begins restoring her mothers beach house. With this comes trials and tribulations that Cara could not have expected.
#6 Beach Music by Pat Conroy
Beach Music takes us the span of South Carolina to Rome and speaks of the haunting memories of our history. Pat Conroy reaches into the unfathomable terrors of the Holocaust.
#7 Imaginary Things by Andrea Lochen
I think I am most excited about this title. Anna Jennings, 22-year-old single mom, moves in with her grandparents in hopes of providing a better life for her four year old son, David. Suddenly, Anna begins seeing shadowy figures of dinosaurs and believes she has lost her mind when in reality she is seeing into her sons imagination. She begins to realize that these imaginary friends could hold a clue to the same haunting imaginary friends she had as a child. Then, she is reacquainted with a childhood friend, Jamie Presswood, and finds that he has grown up and is an even better person than he once was. She is forced to decipher what is real and fake to protect her son and has to learn who to trust.
All seven titles would be great for a beach read, a plane read, a relaxing in the summer sun read, just a good read in general. Do you have any summer vacation reads that you would include on this list? Let me know in the comments below!
