Tuesday's Tiny Treasures: Weekly Children's Book Challenge

Every Tuesday morning, I take Bella to the Denver Public Library to the baby book program. She loves it! We get to sing an dance as well as mingle with other kids her age. Well, today I had an epiphany. Why not get seven books and one video every week for us and I can bring them back the next week and get more (seeing as sometimes I forget to return books on time...oops)? This gives us a book to read everyday at some point and a video to watch throughout the week. What a great idea!

I began searching the library for all kinds of books that had different stories I thought she would enjoy. I did a pretty good job for the first time (yes I know it's not hard to choose seven books for a kid). Here is what I chose:

Chicken in the Kitchen by Tony Johnston Illustrated by Eleanor Taylor
It's Time to Say Good Night by Harriet Ziefert Illustrated by Barroux
Pinkalicious by Victoria Kann & Elizabeth Kann
Giant Pop-Out Shapes designed by Meagan Bennett
Bella Loves Bunny by David McPhail
Take a Look, Bear by Lisbet Slegers
Maisy's Toys Los juguetes de Maisy by Lucy Cousins
and the video
It's Showtime with Barney!

I made sure to pick a variety of books to include different illustrations and different interactive content. One book includes pop up shapes while another includes slides that we can interact with. I even made sure to include a book that will help her learn Spanish! Overall, I'm pretty excited about what this week entails as far as reading with Bella
.

On another note, I strongly encourage getting kids their own library card at a fairly young age so they can learn to check out books on their own. Bella is a bit too young for that still, but she was still able to watch mommy check the books out and see how it's done. I honestly think she was genuinely interested.

I would love everyone to join me on this weekly children's book challenge. Let me know what you pick out for this week and after the week is up tell me what you thought about the challenge!
