Thriller's and action books or movies are not usually my cup of tea, but I found yet another book of a genre I don't normally read that sounds pretty awesome. Here is The Tournament by Matthew Reilly.
When "the feared Sultan of the Ottoman Empire" of 1546 invites every king in Europe to bring their best chess player to determine the champion of the known world, Roger Ascham takes the chance to bring an aspiring student, Elizabeth Tudor.
Once everyone gathers in Constantinople, one of the Sultan's powerful guests gets murder and Ascham and Elizabeth realize that the game of chess is actually being played in real life and not only is the championship is at stake, but their lives as well.
Matthew Reilly is an Australian author known for his adventures and thrilling books. He was discovered at the age of 19 by Cate Patterson who picked him up after he self published his book Contest. He was originally denied by every major publishing company in Australia which led him to self publish. Today, he is a New York Times and #1 International Bestselling Author, which is a great accomplishment.
